Since the launch of the carplay in 2017 Maxima, Nissan has gradually enhances support for the car maker for Apple’s in-car platform, integrated with its Nissanct Infotting system.
I have had the opportunity to spend some time on the Carplay and Nissancope test in Nissan Ultima, one of the most popular midsise sedans in the market, and I thought it was a solid combination.
For re -designed ultima, Nissan is providing 3 carplay standards across the trim, which means even the base model starting at $ 23,900 will support it. This is a welcome difference to many other vehicles where a high-level trim or a special package is needed-not all Nissan base trims include Carplays, but the company has told me that it is moving towards and the Ultima redesign for 2019 was a good opportunity to give it a priority.
My examiner had an Ultima SR with the front-wheel drive, which represents the second level trim of the model and start at $ 25,250. It includes a wide 8 -inch touchscreen display above the standard center stack across the lineup. The SR Trim does not include built-in navigation or more advanced Nissanct subscription services, but it provides a good idea of what you can get in a relatively low-level trim that reduces the hit on your pocketbook.
Nissanct
Ultima brings an updated version of a standard 8 -inch touchscreen and Nissancnect, which is similar to other recent Ultima models, but there are some improvements in visual application and performance, although some screen seems to be somewhat busy and chaotic.
The 8 -inch touchscreen is large enough that it is easy to hit most icons in the touchscreen, no matter what it is in the carplay or Nissanconet, and you can customize some of the Nissanct screens to make it easy to jump on your favorite audio sources or other functions. Nissan provided some hardware button on a strip below the touchscreen, as well as a volume on the left and a tune/scroll nakb on the right.
These buttons provide convenient access to some features, such as a prominent home button to return to the Nissanct Home screen, a phone button for jumping on the phone application, a audio button to select an audio button or original audio screens to select the source or the key to select the button and the button.
There is also a dedicated camera button that allows me to simply adjust the image value for the rear camera in my examiner, but more effective in high-level trims that include features like the front camera or the surrounding scene camera system.
Like many other vehicles, Ultima touchscreen can attract some fingerprints that are most visible in direct sunlight, but there are some matte finish to reduce fingerprints and reduce the flash.
In the software direction, the implementation of the Ultima Nissanct actually includes three separate home screen, all of which are customized with different widgets and shortcuts. Widgets can share live bites like clock, phone and audio applications, while shortcuts are simply icons that allow you to go to a specific function or audio source.
Each home screen is based on 4×2 grid spaces and you can fill those spaces with places that fits in your layout in the combination of widgets and shortcuts. Widgets can take larger spaces like 2×1 or 2×2 and then you can spread 1×1 shortcut icons on any rest of the space.
Once the screens of your home are set up, you can easily swipe them, so it is convenient to find something like the central home screen with your most used functions, and then the left or right can access a more centralized home screens on the left or right, but the choice is yours.
Carplay
Surprisingly, the implementation of the Ultimate Carplay is a wire and you can use the USB-A or USB-C port up front to connect to the system. The Ar Carplay Setup was seamless, because I plugged my phone in the carplay -car exhibition, my phone was plugged in my phone without allowing my phone to be allowed to work on the phone when locked.
Ar Carle is displayed on a large 8 -inch screen with a traditional tidal direction ratio that include the common 4×2 grid of icons on the home screen. In addition to all your Apple apps and carplay-compatible third-party applications, the home screen also has a Nissan app icon that makes it easier to return to the NISCNECT system. If you prefer a more touching method, you can also use the Central hardware home button at the bottom of the screen.
On the other hand, put an icon on the bottom left of the Nissannct audio screens by default that will take you to functions for a joint phone or, if an iPhone is connected via USB, Carplay
My choice for Infotainment systems is to have some ways to display information from the carplay as well as the native system, it is something like a split screens or portrait shows or even the FCA’s eucalyptic system status and menu bars that can show some information for increased integration. Ultima does not offer it, but it makes it fairly easy to jump backwards.
Fortunately, car manufacturers are also moving towards digital driver’s display that can show some additional information and customize your preferences. In Ultima, the driver’s display can be set to show the full audio track information, or if you choose a digital speedometer, for example, audio information displayed at the bottom of your screen. Unfortunately, the name of the channel is only displayed for SiriusxM, but for other sources (Bluetooth, USB, FM radio when track data is broadcast) it will display the name of the song.
The car makers, such as almost universal, serve the Voice Control button of the Ultima Steering Wheel, serve the dual duty, bring a short Nissan assistant and a long press activist Siri. If you prefer a more touchy feeling than touchscreen, the hardware tune/scroll noob can also be used to control the AR Carplay Interface, but its position from the driver to the far side of the display makes it a bit inconvenience, so you want to control the touchscreen or Siri cuckerplay.
The port and connection
The 2019 Ultima is the growing number of vehicles that provide USB-C port for connecting devices. A smartphone storage tray at the base of the center (which is somewhat smaller for an iphone XS maximum with the bottom sticking with a power cable) and a pair of USB ports: a USB-A and a USB-C.
It was certainly nice to see that USB-C began to enter vehicles, though the USB is still common, cars have been designed for ten years or more, and the good future proven to include these new ports, though they are still starting to traction with customers.
There is a second set of USB-A/USB-C ports behind the center console for rear passengers, but not to charge media devices with the Nissanct system for playback. Nissan Ultima does not provide wireless charging or Wi-Fi hotspot effectiveness as an alternative.
Up to wrap
Ultima with Toyota Camery and Honda Accord remains the most popular midsise model in a shrinking sedan market, who want to maintain some speed when others remove their sedan models on sales growth or even remove their sedan models. As a result, the newly designed 2019 Ultima has brought some great enhancement across the board and in-car technology is no exception.
I appreciate 8-inch touchscreen and AR Carplay support across the board at the Ultima Trims, giving everyone easily access to the already familiar ecosystems on their phone. If anything happens, it is more important to be in the Racarplay lower-level trim where navigation is not available, so Nissan Altima and other models allow their red design cycle to be all-in to all-in in the AR carplay.
The Native Nissanct Infotting system is intuitive with a customized interface, and the display is bright with clear color to help the interface elements stand out. Some pages can get somewhat chaos and I would like to see some user interfaces, especially the home screen widgets and a little more modernization of shortcut icons.
For a mainstream midsise sedan for the appeal of the mass market, a clean and useful experience with Ultima Nissancts is a strong job of proposing to present a clean and useful experience and convenient integrity with Carcarplay
2019 Nissan Ultima starts at $ 23,900 with standards included in Carplay. A new All-Wheel Drive option is available for a $ 1,350 charge in all trims, except the high-end in the VC-Terbo engine, and if you choose the maximum thing with the one version One VC-TRIM, you can determine the price all by all.
