Last year, I reviewed ASUS Zenpad 3S 10. At the time, the ASUS is the main tablet and took a little inspiration from the iPad design. It was mostly affected, but the old version of Android (6.0 Marshmallow) and the lower battery life have definitely hindered its capabilities.
Almost at the same time, ASUS Zenpad Z10, a similar tablet exclusively for Verizon. If you read Jordan’s review, you will know that it was a much better device. He had a better processor, larger battery, and Verizon LTE support. ASUS has now followed this tablet with Zenpad Z8s, another exclusive tablet in Verizon with similar specifications and design. But as the name suggests, this screen has an 8 -inch screen instead of a 10 -inch screen.
The Android Tablet market may not be exciting as it was during the era of the honey disk and ICS, but I think Z8s is still a good tablet.

Design and display
The former Zenpad Z8 was not much looking – it had a black front and background, as the only prominent points were the ASUS logo in the back and a Verizon poster in the front. The new Z8S is a huge upgrade in this section, with an aluminum and a plastic band at the top (for wireless reception). The sides and buttons are also metal, giving the Z8s a very special feeling.
Below is the USB Type-C outlet, which does not seem to support any level of fast charging. The guaranteed wall adapter provides only 5V/3A, and my USB-PD charger and the Zenpad 3S 10 have the same speed. The lack of any fast charging function seems strange, especially given the 3S 10 and the Z10 supported by QC3.0.
On both sides of the shipping port are loudspeakers. Smoking was one of my big complaints with Zenpad 3S 10, which was also on the bottom. When watching the media in the landscape, you will cover your hands both, unless you hold it next to one side or tend to something. I really hope that more tablets will have confrontation loudspeakers.
There is also a headphone socket, you cannot consider it a matter of it these days. On the left side, there is a microSD/SIM tray, and on the right there is a power button and sound rocks. It should be noted that the Z8S supports Android’s adopted storage, as long as you have a fast SD card enough. The power button is placed below the rock sound, which is a little annoying; I am more accustomed to the power button at the top than using pixels.

Moving to the foreground, we see one of the main attractions of the Z8s – 2048×1536 IPS LCD. 8 inches tablets usually contain 720p or 1080 pixels, but ASUS has gone out of the screen on the Z8s. It is not limited, but it becomes very bright and the colors are great. You may notice that the accuracy is somewhat unusual – this is that the screen has a transverse ratio 4: 3 like IPAD.
While this is definitely better than 16: 9 to browse the web and read, it is not great for the media. You will always have black bars at the top and bottom while watching broad content. Since I am using tablets almost exclusively for media consumption, I am not a great fan of 4: 3, but the high resolution compensates for them.
Also on the front of the tablet, there are a capacity/modern buttons, and the physical home page button. Unlike Zenpad 3S 10, but like Zenpad Z10, the home page button is no Fingerprint sensor. The keys do not light up the capacity at all, which means that the use of this tablet in the dark is not great. When using this tablet at night, I will often have to continue to eavesdrop as I think before pressing it. I really don’t understand why all tablets do not use the mobile mobility keys at this stage.
camera
A terrible famous tablet cameras, this is no exception. The images are excessive, and a terrible color balance. Most of my photos have ended with blurring as well, although I carry the tablet as much as possible. And do not think about taking pictures at night or in a lightly lit room.
The front camera is a little better, but it suffers from the same problems as the rear camera. The color balance is a special problem, and the preparation of “cosmetics” makes you look like an unique point.
Given that most people never take pictures with tablets, poor Z8S cameras are not a problem for me. But if you are planning to make video calls regularly, you are likely to disappoint.
performance
As you have noticed in the specifications sheet, Zenpad Z8s has Snapdragon 652 with 3 GB RAM. Since the Snapdragon 6xx series is known for a large battery life, I was hoping to last for me longer than Zenpad 3S 10. But before diving in my experience, I will overcome the standard results.
On Geekbench 4, Z8S 1423 for mono -core performance and 4061 for multi -core tasks (full results here). In the 3dmark’s Sling Shot Extreme test, the tablet got 869. Finally, the Z8S 81393 scored on ANTUTU.
In use in the real world, Zenpad Z8s is very fast. Opening applications and switching between them is quickly, and only noticed the slowdown when trying to display complex web pages with a lot of media. Snapdragon 625 is not the best for 3D games, but play Great theft cars: San Andreas Full accuracy (in medium graphics) made only sometimes stuttering the tablet. As mentioned above, I only only use tablets to read light and run media, and Z8S is excellent in both.
Battery life
Another solid side of Zenpad Z8s is the battery life. Jordan praised the battery age at the Z10, where it got about 6.5 hours of time on the screen with a mixture of games and media operation. This tablet contains a large 7800 mAh battery, but the Z8s has a smaller 4680 mAh battery.
Despite the low capacity, I still found that Z8s has a great battery life. In one case, I saw 7 hours of time on the screen after using the tablet and stopping it for three days. It is important to note that my use may differ from you. I really use only tablets for media consumption and browsing the web from time to time, and it is usually only for an hour or two at one time (this decrease was in the end a phrase Office While I was sick in bed). If you are playing 3D games often, or use it as a basic computing device, you will likely see a shorter battery life.
In my test, there is no significant additional depletion when using LTE via Wi-Fi. I will say that my area has very good coverage in Verizon, so the tablet did not have to work hard to keep a strong signal.
programming
At the time of writing this report, Zenpad Z8s operates Android 7.0 with the level of the first safety correction of May. Although the program is a little old, it is still much better than Zenpad 3S 10 that you reviewed last year with Android Marshmallow. Although it is still great like iPad (especially with the multiple tasks of iOS 11), Nougat makes the use of Android tablets much better. Not only there are multiple original windows, but the improvement of the tablet makes the tablets almost no energy when left on its own (as the battery test was clearly shown).
It is not surprising that the company’s zenui skin is on the Z8s. There have been some changes since I reviewed 3S 10 – the notification box looks closer to Android stocks and search for user interface components – but it is mostly the same. The largest part of ASUS modifications can be turned off easily. One of the main features of the programs is “fog -free movement”, which is the same feature of homogeneity the same movement that many new TVs have. Personally, I am not a fan of this, so I turned it off, but there if you want it.
Some other changes include Zenmotion (gestures to open applications), application shortcuts on the lock screen, and a set of apps developed asus. I am not a fan of the company’s keyboard, so I installed GBOARD immediately, but the guaranteed operator is very nice. Three Verizon apps are also included on my unit – Verizon Cloud, Message+and My Verizon.
It should be noted that the ASUS record of updates is not the best. If Android Oreo reaches this tablet, it is likely to be some time. 3S 10 was released in July 2016, and he got nougat about a year later. I wanted to see at least 7.1 of this unit, but the current software experience was good in my experience.
conclusion
Zenpad Z8s is Good Disc. The screen is great, the quality of the construction is a premium, and the battery life is excellent, it works well with the LTE network in Verizon. Most of my harassment of this tablet is simple, such as capacity mobility buttons and camera quality. Verizon currently sells Z8S for $ 10.41 per month for 24 months or $ 249. I think this is a fair price for everything you get.
If you are a Verizon agent looking for a smaller tablet with LTE connection, I think Z8s is a great option. I wish Verizon was not exclusively.
