6/10 classification
In MWC, ASUS offered the Zenfone 2018 collection. Most attention fell on 5Z and 5, with display cracks and fresh designs. On the side of the road, you may have left the lower device of this family, Zenfone 5Q (or Lite, depending on your place). It is not like her brothers at all, even to no degree. As usual with ASUS, focus on this budget phone on cameras, or four of them. We have seen the same story before; ASUS even says, “We <3 photos" (although the heart is a phone silhouette crossed in the shape of V). Although photography performance is in fact good, Zenfone 5Q suffers from other bigger problems. The first and above all is that at the time of writing this report, the phone charges and remains on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, a year and a half of the OS version. For some enthusiastic, this is enough to reject this device from the beginning. Although it was almost terrible, it contains microusb, unlike the closest GSM, Nokia 6.1 (or even Moto G6). To the top of all, ASUS slapped $ 300 (although you can get the white model at $ 285 from Amazon) at 5Q, $ 30-50 dollars more than other budget competitors.

design |
Zenfone 5Q is a beautiful device, and there is a great red option available. |
an offer |
LCD screen is very good for $ 300. It has beautiful colors and gets a lot of open air. |
Battery life |
Zenfone 5Q continues a respectable amount of time, often gets one day with 20-25 % of the battery. It also has a good preparation time. |
camera |
Finally, ASUS managed to achieve solid photography. Both rear cameras and interface work well. Fires are accurately in color in good quantities of details. The phone is struggling with low light, however. |
Not very good
programming |
It is really unacceptable that ASUS will be launched in the last half of 2018 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, especially with the final version of Android P soon. |
Zennawi |
The dedicated ASUS skin, Zenui, is considered very difficult and often hinders the experience of the program as a whole. As with past versions, Android changes are made for change, not for actual improvement. There are ASUS versions of Google applications, the user interface elements feel a bit large and somewhat church, and Zenui appears to be stumbling. Even after several weeks (other projects and delay this review), I cannot say that I enjoy the use of ASUS – it’s really routine action. |
value |
For $ 300, Nougat and MicroSB are not cut off in this current market. Zenfone 5Q is a bad value, the end of the story. |
performance |
This phone suffers from twice as much as it packs under the cover. I noticed a lot of delay and animation. Zenui can become aggressive with the management of the background tasks as well, which means that the applications must be downloaded if you return to it (even when using the dual Recents key abbreviation). Frankly, it was worse than Nokia 6.1, which also has Snapdragon 630, but 3 GB of RAM versus 4 GB. |
Fingerprint sensor |
She is small, she is struggling precisely, and she is miserable. |
Design, devices, what is in the box
In the past few years, ASUS has really climbed in design. Although I will only say a few devices that I used or recently reviewed, I felt distinctive, such as Zenfone V, look great. It comes to the fact that it is difficult to stop looking at the phone with different lighting angles. Zenfone 5Q may not be as great as some Huawei shows, especially with some somewhat large bottom frame, but she is still nice and is definitely attractive.
In general, Zenfone 5Q feels it, with a comfortable weight. The design is somewhat full, so there are no curves that help the device to suit your hand. But both the power button and rock click with a healthy amount of travel.
LCD 6 “2: 1 FHD+ IPS is really good, with excellent corners and viewing corners. From outside the box, the colors are saturated thanks to ASUS ‘Super Vivid.
The biggest problem with devices is the fingerprint sensor. First, it is very small, significantly, after using Pixel 2 XL and OnePlus 6. However, it often struggles accurately and is very slow – it can take again or so to wake up, read your finger, and unlock the phone.
This is only the GSM, so if you are in Verizon or SPRINT, you are lucky here. This phone also comes equipped with a MicroUSB port and 3.5 mm headphone. Previous is the problem, especially when the cheapest phones come with USB-C.
ASUS is cute enough to include a box in the box, along with the charging bricks, microusb cables, ear headphones, and usual evidence. There is nothing amazing here-ASUS is not usually fond of packing on its low devices.
Camera samples
ASUS managed to withdraw good camera performance this time. External images appear accurately solid colors and sharp details, while avoiding excessive exposure in many settings. The secondary secondary corner lens faces a slightly larger problem in attracting a lot of light, although some shots were better (such as a cemetery image below).
Inside and in low lights is the place where Zenfone 5Q is really struggling, and often produced by non -exposed clips. HDR playing the lighting problem helps, but I had a great difficulty in getting stable pictures. And if you are in the effects of his artistic peaches, 5Q will dazzle you – put the image slow, late, and a frustrating experience.
Personal photo cameras have placed pictures that can be passed for social media. My only complaint with both “normal” lenses and the wide angle is that they tend to move away a little to the warm side, which does not always look good for lucky people like me. And do not care about a personal photo flash.
Here is an exhibition of camera samples.
6/10 classification
Asus Zenfone 5Q
Should you buy it? no.
I must wonder if Asus is out of his mind with Zenfone 5Q. When it is, it is ridiculed by a price of $ 300, especially compared to the Moto G6 and Nokia 6.1, its largest competitors (in the west). Certainly, it contains four cameras somewhat well, but this does not exempt the charging with Android, which is almost two years of age-Microusb is also its problem, taking into account that both Moto G6 and Nokia 6.1 have USB-C and cost them less similar devices.
A striking design and four cameras is not enough to sell the phone. Huawei has even discovered that filling out interesting features and best value proposals in its phones in most brackets. ASUS does not seem to have obtained this memorandum yet, although it was in the mobile phone game for several years. I love ASUS, that is why decisions are like the total zenfone 5Q exacerbated me; I want the company to succeed instead of me in most of its devices.
It is better to spend $ 300 elsewhere, either with Moto G6 (if you need CDMA) or better, Nokia 6.1. You may not get this type of image that Zenfone 5Q can produce, but you will get better performance, modern programs, highly used cameras, and better hitting in general.
