At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, Sigate-owned hardware company Lackey has its new design-centric hard drive, $ 280 USB 3.0 Laci Mirror Portable Hard Drive, which has recently become available for purchase. Macrumors Meet Lucky at CES and we have been able to get a hand on the company’s new hard drive to share with our readers.
Lucky’s “Extreme Design” has a history of making products that are looking for people looking at the attention desk accessories that also performs a useful function, resulting in a silver sphere last year, which was created by a 1 TB hard drive. This year’s Lacey Mirror follows the sphere of the sphere, but a bit more traditional is shaped but also provides 1 TB hard drive to the mirror enclosure.
What’s in the box?
As a premium product, the laci mirror ships in a premium box, which folds the hard drive to the padded buggy, folding it on two levels, a cord and a wooden stand to attach to a computer.
There is also a carrying bag to keep the mirror free from scratches during transport, a clean cloth to remove the fingerprint from the surface and a quick installed guide to set up the hard drive out of the box. The hard drive itself is covered with adhesive plastic screen protector, so be sure to remove them before use.
Design
The Lacey Mirror designed French designer Pauline Delter, who made multiple modern furniture and home accessories, including a few pieces that sold Ales and Muji. The mirror is equal to most of the previous work of Deltur, a simple, clear appearance that is able to fit from fitness to fitness with an office design.
It can easily pass as a decorative art object instead of being easily recognized as a hard drive and it is definitely an accessory you want at your desk that is not hidden in a drawer or cabinet.
The iPhone 6 plus is almost wide (but not quite tall), the mirror is well-built and looks like UR. It weighs half pounds and it is half an inch thick. The whole hard drive is mirrored to the front and back to the side. The mirror surface is covered with corning gorilla Glass 3, which confirms that it will be free from scratch both on the desk and while traveling.
Unfortunately, the gorilla glass fingerprints do not back down, which the lacie mirror covers within a few seconds when it rises. The hard drive explains the fingerprint and tendency to attract dust, why it sends it to the ship with a clean cloth. If you have purchased the mirror, keep it near – it will require quick polish every time it picks it.
The mirror vessel with a standard ebony ood stand, whose hard drive itself is a slot and an additional slot where a pen can be stored. Ga Dark is beautifully contrasting with the mirror design of the hard drive and allows it to be located in a portrait or landscape orientation.
Depending on how the hard drive is located on a desk or table, it will demonstrate your image, which can be lightly confusing. It also has a tendency to reflect sunlight or bright light, which shines in it, another small confusion. Both of these situations can be avoided through easy re -establishment and there are some advantages of mirror surfaces – in offices where people are helpful to see your desk, the lace mirror provides a fine way to look around you.
The mirror has a lace logo along the USB port, which is used as a status light. When the hard drive is turned on, the logo is illuminated and the data is accessed when it is flickr. When it shakes for a second and then stops for 30 seconds, the hard drive is in sleep or “eco mode” and when it is not illuminated, the hard drive is not driven.
Software and performance
The laci mirror offers 1 TB storage space and is connected to a hard drive via USB 3.0 with USB cable. It requires a USB 3.0 port for the best performance, but it supports USB 2.0 and can be used with old machines. The mirror is driven by bus and draws its energy from a computer so that it does not require any external energy source.
In our exam, the Lacey Mirror saw the average reading/writing speed of about 100mb/s and the top speed of 117mb/s (was forever higher than the writing speed), which is in the range of other similar USB 3.0 hard drive. This is not very fast, but the other USB 3.0 is not under performing compared to the hard drive.
When a mirror is plugged in for the first time in a Mac or Windows machine, it requires you to get the hard drive to open the Lacey setup assistant to get the hard drive and run quickly. The first setup option helps users to divide the drive, either for perfectly use with the Mac system or for use between Mac and Windows system. Selecting a Mac setup simply opting for HFS+ format, while choosing a dual setup using FAT32 format.
HFS+ Windows are not compatible with machines and Fat 32 is compatible with both systems, but it limit the maximum single file size 4GB. Windows users also have an NTFS formatting option.
Once it is formatted, the setup process goes into a registration process that activates the two-year warranty and then the Into Backup Assistant to back up the files, Lacey desktop manager and Lacey Private Public software for managing multiple lacquer devices from any computer to the Lacey Desk Software with Laisi Desk Software for the Service of Lacey Desk Manager and Lacey Private Public Software.
With the installing the Lacey Desktop Manager software, the mirror will enter “eco mode” after five minutes inactivity, energy conservation. If the data is accessed, the hard drive comes out of eco mode.
The Lacey Mirror is compatible with Mac OS 10.5 or later or after Windows Vista or after the running computers. It comes with a two-year limited warranty that includes web-based resources, support and device repair or replacement.
Who is it for?
For 1 TB Hard Drive, for $ 279.99, the Lacey Mirror does not look for some additional storage space for average consumers. Companies like Western Digital, Toshiba, Sigate and many others provide 1 TB hard drive in a fraction of the price, as low as $ 60. This is not a stiff state drive and the Thunderbolt port does not mean it is inappropriate for those who are looking for the average speed for users.
The Lacey Mirror is marketed as a showpiece that targets people who value the above expenditure design. If you are looking for a hard drive that looks like a fancy piece of desk art than a hard drive or if you like glossy things, the laci mirror is a strong choice. People who create minimal, design-based workplaces will probably appreciate the value of the conversation of the laci mirror aesthetics and forms as well as the function.
