Should you buy one?
We have previously said here in Android police that ASUS makes some of the best Chromebook books on the market, but the bumps on the road are inevitable. Take the last one we reviewed, C223NA. Corbin has gone out of his admiration, so we were hoping to hear the coming Asus offers to what made us fall in love with Flip C302. Unfortunately, what I have here, C423, does not accomplish it. From the overwhelming central processing unit to the Meh screen, my experience with the C423 that I received was a medium one, which one expects from the Chrome book worth $ 270. But although I didn’t like it at first, it grew on me whenever I used it.

Ports |
There is a good set of ports on C423. Each side has USB-C and USB-A, and there is even a microSD slot. |
price |
It is a 14 -inch Chromebook for $ 270. It is a cheap laptop, and there is something that can be said. |
design |
In general, the modern design feels, especially for the budget Chromebook. Asus loves to show off the “skinny” edges, so there is that. |
Quality building |
Along with the cute appearance, C423 feels well. There is little flexibility at the bottom of the box and the back of the cap, which is unusual. |
Not very good
performance |
We all know what N3350 is capable of this point, and this is not impressive. This is the biggest problem I have with C423, as it comes to crawling with more than five tabs or two open Android applications. |
an offer |
Watching angles are not amazing and watching media is not great. It is about what you expect for a $ 270 laptop. |
Keyboard |
The keyboard is acceptable to some fast email messages or social media posts, but sponge sponge keys are not comfortable for long -seminars of writing. |
Design and devices
ASUS did a very great job in the design and construction of C423. With a plastic body, it looks more installment than it is already – this is not I take a snapshot of the building, keep in mind. To date, I have been completely pleased with the feeling of this device. The main body has very little flexibility, except for the middle of the lower part of the box and the back of the cap.
I felt overwhelmed with the selection of the port, with two USB-C, 2 USB-A, MicroSD, and 3.5 mm headphone socket on board. Each side of the laptop receives one C and one A, which is great to use peripheral devices. The presence of a great MicroSD opening was also one of the times you needed.
In general, I love the appearance and feeling of Chromebook; It is completely light, which makes it completely appropriate to transfer it to the separation, through your home, etc. The corners are slightly rounded so that you do not put more unnecessary pressure on your wrist. The lack of a noticeable junction leaves me with the impression that C423 is based on more care and attention to detail from any Acer Chromebook I used, even Chromebook 15 last year.
The keyboard and touch plate
As with any chrome book in the budget, there are many shortcuts that were made to maintain a low price. Although it is not what I saw most at all, the keyboard and touch board are somewhat suffering to make it $ 270 of MSRP.
Not in any way, I find that the keyboard is fine in short fiery shorts, such as responding to emails, creating some tweets, and conducting some research on any topic you were obsessed with on a specific day. However, for longer seizures than writing, I find it becomes uncomfortable. The keys are sponge and sponge, and require a little strength to pressure; It is also a little higher than you used to hear it from the laptop keyboard.
The plastic touch board is not distinctive, although it accomplishes the task. It is reasonably smooth, which means that your finger should not pick it up when you try to put the indicator. It is also a nice compromise between a huge MacBook and something small (as you may find on other laptops the budget). The clicks themselves look hollow and noticed some slight cash when clicking.

Secondly, for the performance, which I will address below, the screen is one of the weakest areas of C423 – it is, with one word, disappointing. The colors are boring, lacking any pop music and consistency in different corners. In that observation, viewing corners are not great, with a noticeable dark presence in anything the past face to face.
It is not bad for Chromebook 12 C223na that Corbin reviewed a few months ago, but this does not say much. Watching media is not an enjoyable experience.
Over my few weeks, I noticed that I suffered more eye strains than I assaulted on the other laptop and desktop. Something about that constantly gave me a headache. This is just my personal experience, so take it as you do.
Performance and battery life
One of the best things in C423 is the battery life for 10 hours. This is very normal for Chromebooks, but the presence of a long -lasting laptop is always worth referring to. In my test, it was ten hours right, but your miles will differ depending on what you do, the bright screen, etc. clearly.
But now we come to the essence of C423: performance. INTEL 3350, the dual -core central treatment unit that has not impressed anyone for some time now, is associated with 4 GB RAM. It is good with basic tasks, but anything that goes beyond a clear decrease in performance. When working, the amount of tabs that you opened on the desktop or the main laptop vary, but it is usually at least four. However, on the Chromebook, keep the Slack Open web since the Android app is a bad experience. In five signs or more tabs, I saw C423 starting to accommodate randomly with both the touch plate and the keyboard is not responding. It is clear that adding more tabs (especially those like YouTube) has decreased performance, especially with Open Slack as well.
As you go android applications, it’s a similar thing to see in the past. One or two applications is a safe bet, given that you only have a few signs of a browser tab. TELEGRAM usually kept at all times and did not really affect the five base. But throw something else like Spotify, Discord or Snapseed and the system begins to withdraw.
I was given, I didn’t expect a lot of N3350, but it is a cheap slice that keeps the costs low. People do not buy uneven chromebooks to replace their games for their games, but the amazing performance is still worth taking care of it, especially if someone is planning to make this thing his daily driver.
Should you buy one?
maybe. If your budget is narrow or you just want a cheap backup computer, C423 is a good option. You can get a large 14 -inch screen, choose great outlets, a decent keyboard, a touch plate, and a solid battery life. Just do not expect to do a lot of multiple tasks, at least not quickly.
“It looks great and accomplishes the mission – he may not always do it at the speed you want, but it will get there.”
However, if you have a little more to spend, ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 is still a strong option. It usually sits at $ 499, almost twice the starting price in C423, but we saw that it decreases to 399 dollars often. Chromebook provides you with a fully convertible experience, building a monochrome body, much better performance, and a more attractive screen.
If you are wondering, I wrote this review on C423, and I used some Linux applications such as Firefox and GIMP successfully. Initially, I really didn’t like this Chromebook, for reasons I still cannot explain it properly. The more you use it, the more comfortable with the elements that were initially outside it, such as the keyboard. Coming from the excellent My Matebook X Pro, I was worried about a little bit of shortcomings in C423, but this is not really important.
At $ 270, there is no objection to recommending C423 for a specific type of people. But as we saw on Black Friday, ASUS does not have a problem hitting a few dollars from the demand price. All in all, looks nice and accomplishes the task. It may not always do it at the speed you want, but it will get there.
