Last month, a pair of Caldigit made a pair of Thunderbolt 3 mini doks, Dual 4K 60Hz display, Ethernet and USB provided the ability to connect to a travel-covered accessories whose own external energy source is not required. Available in Dual Displopport and Dual HDMI versions, Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 Mini Docs are a convenient way to ensure that you can easily connect multiple high-resolution display wherever you go.

I got the chance to check both versions of the dock and I am fascinated with their performance, compactness and effectiveness to ensure that you have the connection you need away from your general workplace.

Design

Both the Thunderbolt 3 mini dock has aluminum designs with plastic on two long edges in the same way that the ports are left aside and the short built -in Thunderbolt 3 simply exits the other. Aluminum is an attractive gray that is significantly compared to Apple’s Space gray shades significantly on the top and a calcidigit logo at the top of the dock. The bottom contains a pair of non-scd strips to help keep the dock stable.

Both docs measure about 2.5 inches deep and 5 inches long by 0.75 inches thick. It makes them a little smaller than the iPhone 8 but dense enough and a little more than 5 ounces they are about the same weight as the iPhone 8. Overall, which makes them much smaller and lighter than the desktop Thunderbolt 3 dock and they do not need a huge power brick (or any external energy outside the Thunderbolt cable), so they are very transportable.

The two versions include a Gigabit Ethernet port, a 5GBPS type USB 3.0 port and a pair of display 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 port. The HDMI model also includes a second type USB port, though it is limited to 480 MB/S USB 2.0.

Performance

I tested both dock performances that used an array of accessories and got strong performance. Both the display and HDMI version offer smooth video performances when dual 4K is connected to 60 Herzade without any lag or visual art. You would like to choose the version that fits the best of your display, but keep in mind that the display model can also run non-dispelport monitors such as DVI, mini displace or VGA, unless you object to dongles for your dung.

The USB 3.0 speed was fast, while connecting to the MacBook Pro through the dock, there was a cadgit tofing external SSD with an external SSD to register a 360 MB/S Reid and 340 MB/S writing speed. It is a bit slower than a direct connection to a Mac 5GBPS USB port, but in compatible with the performance when connecting via other dock and hubs. When connecting the USB 2.0 port in the HDMI version of the mini dock, you will be fortunate to have a long tenth of that speed, so you will want to restrict the port to rats, keyboards and other peripherals where you are not trying to remove a lot of data quickly.

There are several bus-powered USB-C hubs and dock in the market that provide an array of ports and other options, deciding to concentrate on the Caldigit external display connection, and only include additional minimum ports.

Caldigit says it is an attempt to stay within Thunderbolt 3 power specification, which limit bus -driven devices to a total of 15 watts. USB-C adapters can be limited to a total of 7.5 watts in some cases, but many of these docas, including many available ports, are easy to hit this image and cause possible electricity problems. The USB 3.0 port can be supplied up to 4.5 watts in Caldigit’s mini dock, while the USB 2.0 port of the HDMI model can supply up to 2.5 watt.

Up to wrap

This Thunderbolt 3 mini dock is combined with a special need, who need to connect with multiple high-resolution external display on the go, but they do well in their work. If you initially want to extend the available ports to your MacBook Pro, you will probably want to see other options that provide larger numbers and different ports and may probably run over the USB-C. These port-centric USB-C hubs also come to low-priced points, $ 60 as a simple figure.

However, Caldigit solutions are great for users who need cheap display connections that do not match cheap USB-C hubs, as well as providing several handy additions in the form of Ethernet and USB ports. Comparing the Traditional Desktop Desktop Thunderbolt 3 dock, mini dock of Caldigit are cheap, easily carryable and do not require external energy, so they are effective for on-the-the-the-use use.

Caldigit currently supplies the Thunderbolt 3 mini -dock display version for $ 99.99, while the HDMI model is priced at $ 109.99, both of them have a $ 30 discount compared to their last regular prices, though Caldigit told me that it planned to pay a promotional price for an extended period. Both models are also available via Amazon, though they are $ 10 worth of dollars than buying directly from Caldigit, $ 109.99 for display and $ 119.99 for HDMI.
