Satechi Review: Type-C USB Hub Hit-Ba-Miss, Small Adapter Reliable

When Apple launched a new 12-inch MacBook earlier this year, the first some accessories for laptops-which uses USB type-C exclusively-different adapters and dongles that allow customers to extend the limited capacity of hardware to the Traditional Testicidal USB, HDMI and Access to SD card ports. Apple itself has introduced a line of expansion cables for USB type-C devices, and now the USB hub and adapters have their own type-C line to choose the third-party accessory company Satechi customers.

Satechi has focused on the connection between USB-C devices and more traditional inputs, focusing on the connection between USB 3.0.1, sending two new accessories to the company. One of the accessories is a complex “hub” (sales of $ 39.99, sales for $ 34.99) with an SD and a microSD card slot with three USB 3.0 ports, the other is a USB-C connector and the other is a general dongle (. 14.99) a traditional Ports of 3.0 in the USB-A. Each product is in three different colors to match the new lines of the retina MacBook: Gunmetal (Space Gray), Gold and Silver. Since both dongles do not supply additional USB-C port, there is no passthrough charging feature.

Overall, Satuchi successfully mirrors with Apple’s visual aesthetics with two accessories, and though I was sent gold accessories that did not fake my space Gray MacBook, it seems like colorful new USB hubs will mix with their respectively McBooks.

With its most initial functions, Satechi 3-in-1 combo hub provides ordinary USB-to-USB-C data transfer with slight hassle. Once the hub is plugged into the macbook, a small light on the top of the ancillary enlightens its activation and users can then plug a USB 3.0 device to the accessories to access the retina MacBook. Satechi Hub took SD card and microSD card but I had nothing in the hands of the test so their effectiveness could not be guaranteed in the first hand.

I would say that it is safe to capture the USB ports of the hub as well as SD cards, but I have come up with some noticeable issues with accessories that can cause concern for potential users. First, Satechi’s accessories are strangely desirable that USB devices take it to work through the hub. For three separate USB sticks and an Apple-branded USB Superdrive test, I have discovered that a USB stick and Apple Superdrive simply do not work with the hub.

When both of the plugged in a separate computer work naturally, the MacBook is plugged in through the Satechi Hub, the USB drive never appeared in the MacBook. In a similar vein, the Apple USB Superdrive repeatedly displayed cautionary messages repeat the need for a separate power source for use, suggesting that the hub can supply the power to supply the bus. Basically only USB -related products I occasionally do dust Superdrive, so it is especially disappointing that Satechi’s 3 -in -1 hub doesn’t work with it. The hub also becomes heated with extended use but it does not seem to affect the performance in my exam.

Secondly, Slender Dongle raises some problems in his design: When plugged in to the MacBook, the only anchor on the computer is the small USB-C connector. The hub itself is just 3.25 inches long and due to the design of the MacBook, the USB-C adapter has no additional support to reduce the length of its direction on the opposite end. Although there is no possibility of any loss if it is operated with care, it certainly seems that the combination is held or strangely picked and significant torque is applied to the connection, then there is the possibility of damage to the hub or MacBook.

Satechi’s cheap for the hub, the small part is reasonably better accessories for users, which only require a simple 1 -to -1 device. I tested it with the same USB sticks and USB Superdrive and all things work without hassle. Apple’s USB Superdrive never gave such an error message during my time with the hub.

It is a small device, more easily sensitive for damage (similar to the dual USB drive of Sundisk), but it is reasonably better investing in low-entering prices and economic functioning. Due to its short footprint of its only real fall, any leverage that is needed to remove any USB stick from its port is almost always removed the entire adapter from the MacBook first.

Satechi’s 3 -in -1 hub is a bit more difficult to recommend. Although two devices are meant for different persons and purposes-hub a more connection requirement, a casual user has only many problems with more common dongle-desigine and hit-or-miss performing, even their three USB ports they need $ 39.999. The device is the recommendation hub.

On the other hand, $ 14.99 Satechi Dongle in the USB-C devices in the market serves as one of the USBs and as advertisements. It also comes about $ 5 under the 19.99 version of Apple’s accessories, which connects the USB-C edge to the USB port to a slender white cable. Basic USB-to-USB-C requires adaptable, and whoever wants to save some extra money, they will do well to look for Satechi’s simple type-C USB adapter.

Both the Satu Accessory agencies are available for purchase from the official website, although some hubs (gold and guinea) are currently unavailable.
