Review: Activity Rewards bring your Apple Watch fitness achievements to life

by red

Activity Awards is a new site that offers a physical representation of the digital fitness awards that Apple gives out when Apple Watch owners meet their goals.

Activity Reward 1
Available in magnet form, Activity Awards are designed to look like in-app rewards that can be earned through fitness apps. With each magnet modeled after a different reward, the Activity Rewards site offers all kinds of options

There are rewards for meeting goals like the 7-day Move, Exercise and Stand requirements, as well as rewards for specific activity challenges like the badges Apple gave out in August for hiking, running, walking or doing a mile or wheelchair workout. more

The magnets range in price from $10.99 to $13.99, and some are available in full color or in a “black out” mode that is all black and silver.

The magnets are made in the style of enamel pins and are bright, colorful and well made. They feel like high-quality magnets and have a built-in magnetic backing for attaching to refrigerators or other magnetic surfaces.

The activity rewards have a good weight to them, and the magnetic strength is in line with what I would expect from a premium magnet (I stuck the two of them together and it was almost impossible to separate them).

I noticed some slightly sharp edges on a few of the awards so I might not let the kids play with them, but on a magnetic surface it doesn’t matter too much. Some of the magnetic backs also seem to crack in half, and I’m not sure what that means for longevity. I broke two magnetic backs in half and stacked them on top of each other to bring them from room to room, so if you buy these make sure not to do that.

All of the designs are close to spot on, and there’s no mistaking the activity rewards for Apple Watch rewards displayed in the fitness app’s rewards section. You still can’t get all the rewards Apple offers in magnet form, but I imagine Activity Rewards is working on other options to include in the future.

Activity Awards are not affiliated with Apple, and I don’t know if Apple Watch fitness-inspired awards are made available in a format that makes money for anyone other than Apple, but the site’s founder told me that Activity Awards aren’t just fonts and Pantone colors. Apple has changed to produce a 1:1 match with the award, plus the design is flat.

The company wants to make it clear that the pins are not coming from Apple and are designed to complement and complement the Apple Watch.

bottom line

Every week, I read stories on the Internet from people who have been inspired to get fit for the Apple Watch, and working out and maintaining a routine can be a lot of work. A physical representation of a workout accomplishment visible every day can be motivating and a reminder of what’s been accomplished.

I think Activity Rewards have the potential to be a nice gift for someone who has put a lot of effort into working with the Apple Watch, or even an automatic gift for someone who wants to be reminded of what they can achieve.

Some designs, like the Yoga Award and the Parks Award, also look objectively beautiful and have a nice, neutral design that Apple Watch owners might like to keep on the fridge. There are some quality control issues to deal with activity rewards, so keep that in mind if you plan to buy these. Handle magnetic backings with care, as they may break.
