Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro charging case is equipped with a set of small metal holes on the right side, holes designed to accommodate a lanyard. Apple doesn’t provide a lanyard with the AirPods Pro and is actually only selling one on its website and retail stores.
The Incase Lanyard costs $12.95, and is designed with AirPods Pro in mind, launching on the same day as the new earbuds. The lanyard consists of a thin gray strap that slides into the hole in the AirPods Pro and then loops to hold it securely.
It’s a standard lanyard design used for all sorts of accessories, and you’re probably familiar with it if you wear a badge or have a smartphone case that has a lanyard loop available. The loop that attaches to the AirPods Pro is in turn attached to a light gray plastic clip, and at the end of the plastic clip, there’s a long, thick gray braided loop that can be wrapped around the wrist or looped over a backpack. bag strap
I like to attach my AirPods Pro to the inside zipper of my backpack, keeping it accessible and hiding it from view. The clip mentioned above can be used to attach the incase lanyard to the object as you can loop it and then tuck the strap into the end of the clip. The clip is tight, so it feels secure. I’ve used the wrist strap to carry the AirPods Pro when I don’t have a bag with me, and I feel it’s comfortable and secure. I appreciate the braided design, but the all gray design is boring. I wish Apple and Incase offered the Incase lanyard in better colors.
If you use the Incase Lanyard to attach AirPods Pro to a key, your wrist, or the outside of a bag, it’s worth noting that there’s no mechanism that secures the AirPods Pro’s case. If the ‘AirPods Pro’ 2 lid opens, your AirPods may fall out.
Incase says the lanyard is 9.25 inches long, and that seems like a good length for use as a wrist strap, if a little long. I tried pulling on both sides of the plastic clip and the lanyard felt well made and durable.
All in all, the incase lanyard is fine, and I have no complaints about it. It serves its purpose and looks like it will hold up for quite some time. I’d like to point out that at $13, it won’t break the bank, but it’s relatively expensive. At Amazon.com, you can buy multi-packs of lanyards for half the price because you can use any lanyard with the skinny loop design.
